A 30-year-old woman has been arrested and question on suspicion of concealing the birth of a baby after a body was found at an empty house at Farm View, Pengam, by council workers.

Workers from Caerphilly County Borough Council found the baby’s body as they cleaned out the house on Tuesday morning.

The woman, a mother-of-two, reportedly moved out of the rented house two months ago.

A spokesman for Caerphilly County Borough Council said: “The discovery of a baby’s body by council staff at the property was obviously very traumatic and support is being offered to the employees concerned.

“We are working closely with Gwent police as part of their enquiries and have nothing further to add at this moment in time.”

Gwent Police said the local woman had been released on bail while investigations continue.
